Everything you should know in order to move around by public transport in Florence.
Tram lines and city bus services (red and white, or blue and grey or orange buses) are the public transport in Florence.
The tram line T1 Leonardo connects the parking of Villa Costanza at Scandicci (suburb of the city) with the city centre and the Hospital of Careggi, in the north of Florence, passing in front of the central station Firenze SMN and the city centre.
A second tram line T2 Vespucci connects SMN Central station to the Airport of Florence Vespucci.
On buses and trams it’s better to travel by purchasing tickets in advance (before getting on the bus or tram) from authorized sales points (bars, tobacconists and newsagents), from the AUTOLINEE TOSCANE hall which is inside the SMN train station or from the automatic machines which are at every tram stop. Tickets must be immediately punched in the machines, as you get on board. A 90 minutes ticket costs € 1.50.
Electric buses move in the historical centre; they also reach the pedestrian areas.
There are four lines: C1 – C2 – C3 – C4; the route C1 is convenient for visiting the most important museums of Florence.
Public lines that reach interesting points for tourists:
bus no. 7 – Largo Alinari – San Domenico – Fiesole
bus no. 10 – Via La Pira (Piazza San Marco) – Stadio Comunale – Settignano
bus no. 12 – Rotonda Barbetti (near the SMN train station) – Piazzale Michelangelo – Via Cavour (Piazza San Marco) – Stazione SMN – Rotonda Barbetti
